In Lollipop Chainsaw, follow the delightful exploits of an 18-year-old, chainsaw-wielding, scantily-clad high school cheerleader who is also a zombie hunter who flashed her panties while slashing the undead. Indeed, exactly the type of video games one would expect from Grasshopper Manufacture, the Japanese-based developer behind the dick-jokes-obsessed Shadows of the Damned.Pushing the envelope of ludicrous video games premise, the upcoming action-adventure game is surprisingly written by American filmmaker James Gunn, the twisted mind behind Tromeo and Juliet and the dementedly funny SUPER (as well as sharing the screenplay credit for Zack Snyder's 2004 remake of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead).
The female protagonist of the title, zombie hunter/cheerleader, Juliet Starling, will be joining members of her family, and her boyfriend, Nick (the hapless disembodied head by her side), in a balls-to-the-wall all-out war against hordes of zombies in the fictional San Romero High School. With Grasshopper CEO Suda51 serving as the creative director of the title, Lollipop Chainsaw was first announced last month as a collaboration between Grasshopper Manufacture, Prope, Kadokawa Shoten and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, who will be publishing the game outside of Japan.
